BBC 4 – The Secret Life of RubbishPosted: January 13, 2014
This afternoon we watched the BBC program ‘The Secret Life of Rubbish’ I found it a real eye opener and fascinating program to watch. I can related myself to the people of 70+ years ago and how they had the mentality of “make do and mend”, as I prefer to fix a product rather than buy it again just because it is broken. I also find it annoying how that most modern products cant be taken apart and fixed and they have a life expectancy just so companies can make more money from you.
After the video Paul asked us a few questions about it which made me realise how we all contribute and make an impact to this mess and amount of rubbish we throw away. One being “did everyone get nice presents for Christmas” meaning that we have contributed to the need for new and up to date products. This also pointed out how being a product designer we can contribute to cutting down this in our products and packaging
