My name is Andy Hallam. I am 19 years old and currently in my first year at Cardiff Metropolitan University studying a Bsc in Product Design. I was born in Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands where I have lived whole life till moving to Cardiff last September for university.
Throughout my whole life I have been interested in engineering and how things work, but basically just an excuse to get my hands dirty taking something apart. Then later in life began fascinated with some of the inventions on BBC 2’s ‘Dragons Den’ program and dreamt of being an entrepreneur like many and running my own successful company providing a solution to many people’s problems.
From this desire to one day manage my own business I admire and look up to people like Nev Wilshire from Save Britain Money and Gordon Newton from Israel Newton and Sons Ltd. Their drive, passion and work ethic for what they do is incredible. Even more so is the way they respect each member of their work force as a person with a family and background and not just a number on their records. Gordon Newton even said “don’t give a man a job to do unless you would do it yourself” and in my opinion that’s how every company should operate.
As well as admiring business figures and entrepreneurs I also aspire to be like some designers and high quality brand names. These include: Breitling, Tag Heuer, Rolls Royce, Harman/Kardon, Coca Cola, Bang and Olufsen, Philippe Starck, Sir James Dyson along with many more. I want to one day want to be associated with a line of products with a trusted brand name, something that will stand the test of time which customers can always rely on for many years to come.
